I’m Scared…

Eats and Workouts:

Ayer for Lunch I had 1/2 a cup of Brown Rice with 1 cup of Black Beans with Onions and Peppers….these two pots have lasted me all week! SCORE! I paired it with 1/2 a Banana.


After work, I rushed and changed and then headed to the gym with my sister. We got there at a great time, it was not that crazy and we were able to use various machines. We hopped on the treadmills first…and now it is time for a confession. This is the first time I have ever been on a treadmill! (((GASP))))) When I told my friend this last night, she said “How have YOU never been on one?”. Simple, I did all of my walking and running outdoors! And whenever I trained a client, I would not go on it with them.

This felt so strange! I felt like a drunk person lol. Am I the only one that finds treadmills strange? I should also state that I have a slight fear of escalators so it only seems right that this machine would scare me too. I wanted to run on it but I was scurred that I would fall right off so instead I played with the inline and the speed. I have to get used to it for a bit and then I will start jogging on it…what speed do normally use for an easy paced jog? It’s so sad too because in my head I would tell myself “Okay now RUN” but my legs were not having it lol. I need to get over this fear so I can train for my 5k.

We stayed on the treadmills for 30 minutes and then did 20 minutes of lower body strength training and then I did 10 minutes with the Arc Trainer (sis did bike) and burned a total of 603 in 1 hour and 3 minutes.

I then went back home and did laundry…which that in itself is another workout…carrying that huge bag up and down 4 flights of stairs lol.

For din din I made myself a Green Monster with:

  • Spinach
  • 2 scoops of Chocolate LMM
  • Peanut butter
  • 1/2 a Banana
  • Splenda

This morning I had a date with Jil Jil! I need to start planning my workouts a little better because today’s workout was focused on lower body…ouch. I ended up burning 300 Calories in 36 minutes.

For breakfast I had a bowl of Chobani Honey Yogurt with PB and 1/2 a Banana with my usual café con leche. Do you guys heat up your Yogurt messes? I love to toss everything in the bowl and heat it up for about 20 seconds


Then I take it out, mix it up, and heat it up for 20 more seconds. I guess I like this because the weather is cold and I prefer my yogurt warm…I am sure once the weather starts to warm up; I will have it cold again.


I am so very tired and today will be another loooooong day…I am training my client tonight at 6pm and probably wont get to relax until 8ish. I plan to have din din before training her so that I am not starving during the session.  Do you ever feel like you are going going going?

    I trained for my 5k on the treadmill and outside. I think an easy running pace is 5.0, walk at 4.0. not sure what others think.

  2. yes. working out to keep up with you makes me feel taht way!

    I feel like a lazy oaf. I need to workout .. maybe I will take myself to the gym since I get a good sweat there... hmmm. but my floor needs cleaning. decisions decisions.

    and you hve to build up to your fear on the treadmill! walk, brisk walk, jog, then run. you have to get used to it. you can do it! if I and I emphasize I can do it so can you!!!!!

  3. That's funny about the treadmill. Makes sense though.

    I thought I was the only one who heated up their yogurt!!! I put it in so it gets all warm and kind of cooked. I'm an odd, odd, lady.

  4. p.s. I would follow the Couch to 5k, It worked great! Maybe you can run inside and outside, so when you do the actual 5k outside you are used to running on the streets and hills, etc. :)

    Jen, Yeah I am a huge fan of couch to 5k. I always use this when I am getting back into running but I have always done it outside

    If you start waving your hands around when you talk, and acting very loud in public places. The transformation will be complete.

  8. Mari, I would love to have seen you on the treadmill for the first time! It is really weird at first, I totally agree! I've fallen off before too!

  12. I never thought to heat anything with yogurt up in the mic. As for the earthquake it is terrible. The island I live on is small and I do worry, but we should be ok. The last major earthquake here was 30 years ago from this past new years day. Also, the island is made up of 4 valcanoes, they say they are dormant, but who knows. I will say it makes it beautiful here.

  13. Yeah, there are definitely days I feel like that! But I somehow make sure that I have an hour at the end of the day to just chill out in my bed, under the covers, just me and my favorite TV shows ... that helps my mind to finally unwind!

  14. I agree with some of ur blogger comments where you should run around 5.5 (to start with--but i'm expecting u to run around 6-6.5 when race time comes around!!!) and walk around 4.0-4.5. If your walking to cool down or start off, even put the incline up to like 2 or 3, you end up burning twice as many calories, but u don't even feel the small incline :-). I believe when your running at 6, it's averaging a 10 min mile.. totally eassy breezy for u =P

  16. first time on a treadmill! thats awesome, Mari! go slow at first, work your way up to being used to running on oit! haha 'felt like a drunk person' I get taht sometimes, it can be hard to getting used to! everyone's jog or run speed is diffrent because this has to do with the size of the person, how long their legs are...a pretty easy jog for me that I could do straight for about an hour would be 6.5 btu I never keep it on one speed when I go on it! I always sprint, jog, run...just keep it changing!

  17. I started running on a treadmill, but now I much prefer running outside. Unfortunately, during these winter months I have no choice but to hit up the treadmill. I feel much less steady on it than I do when I run outside. I always find my hands resting on the console.

    I never would have thought to add a banana to rice and beans. I'm intrigued!

  18. Wow, first time on a treadmill! Personally, I don't think you're missing much. I much prefer to run outside, but sometimes the brutal cold weather makes this seem impossible. I often feel like I'm going, and going and the energizer bunny, but then I lose my battery! That's where yoga comes in for me.

  19. wow congrats on the treadmill girl! i would definitely say if you're training to run at a 5.0 but put it on an incline about 2%. i heard somewhere that 2% incline is the equivalent or something like it to running outside

    First of all...I knew you ate bananas with beans, but I didn't know you actually dipped them in the same container!

    I have a fear of running outside because I always hurt myself in some way. A good jog for me is 5.3 and if I want to sprint, it's 6.4...that seems to work for being 5'4"!

  22. I am not sure I know anyone else that has never been on a treadmill, lol. Good job breaking through!!! When I started running, the speed I used was 5 mph. Then I gradually increased it as I got stronger.

I don't know how you just do the smoothies for dinner...wish I had your teeth are killing from the dentist and I still half-chewed down food...of course my stomach hates me for it...but I can't control my mind. Oh well - wow to your confession girl!! haha - you'll get the hang of it eventually - "Dread"mills are weird :)

  24. I feel like I am always going going going lately. An easy jog is anywhere between 5.6 and 6.2 depending on the day! I'd never think to pair black beans and rice with a unique!

    I can't believe that was your first time on a treadmill, ha ha. I don't like them very much except for if I'm really trying to push myself on speed. Outdoors is so much better :)

  26. Don't be scared, Mari! If you can run outside for your 5k I'd recommend running outside. Its so different than running indoors. When is this 5k?

  27. I HATE running on treadmills. As in I just can't do it. At all. It hurts my knees.

    I would just buy a pair of gloves, a few sweatshirts and some spandex and run outside. But then again, I am slightly a lunatic about such things...
