Hello my loves!!!!!!! I hope everyone is having a great weekend!!!!
Guess what I did today? I RAN MY FIRST 10K!!!!!!!!!! I participated in NYRR’s Mini 10
I started to prep for my race last night, and when I say prepping; I mean bothering Nik to make me a playlist (his music library is BANANAS!)
It only seemed right to kick off Mile 1 with “Run the World Girls” by Beyonce!!!!!
The Weather Gods were looking down on us and kept it nice and cool…granted the humidity was 96% but hey at least it wasn’t 96 degrees!
Nik came with me (thanks babes!!!!!) and caught some great pictures of the race…
do you spy mari?????
The first mile of the race was slow and steady, I kept reading in various Runner’s World Magazine that you should run your first mile about 2 minutes slower than the pace you wanted to finish with, so I tried to pace myself so I wouldn’t burn out…10:56 Pace
Mile 2: I gained some speed (10:03), I really loved that we started the race on the Streets of NY!
I snapped this picture while I was running =)
I don’t know what hit me but when Mile 3 rolled around, I was on a runners high and flew (must have been my sf redbull haha)…fastest split: 9:52
I guess I used all my energy for mile 3 because 4 was a tad slower and I had to start taking some walking breaks, especially on the hills…10:59
I gained some speed again by Mile 5 and I think it might have had something to do with this little dog cheering for us on the sideline! 10:15
Before I knew it, we were already on our 6th mile and I felt pretty good…and I felt even better when I saw Nik cheering me on! 10:23
And just like that, I completed my first 10K
I was a sweaty mess!)
And I received my first race medal!!!! I was never involved in sports as a kid so this was HUGE for me!
Here is my official time:
I really felt great during my race but after…not so much. I am not sure if it’s because of dehydration but I have been having the worse stomach cramps all day. I have been laying on my couch ever since I got home and took a shower…I hope this feeling goes bye bye.
Overall, I feel really great and I am proud of my accomplishments.
