Back in the Saddle…oops Sneaker

So today I did something that I have not done in forever…what do you ask? RUN!

first run

I have been on a running hiatus for the past 2 months.  After the whole marathon debacle, I was so burnt out from training that the last thing I wanted to do was go out for a run. I would come up with every excuse in the book not to get out there “it is raining, it’s cold, I don’t have time” when in reality I just didn’t want to. I hated running.

After a few weeks running started to creep back into my thoughts but then the doubts also made an appearance. Here is a little fact about me…I suffer from social anxiety disorder so even though I love to run outdoors, I HATE people staring at me. I wanted to get back out there but I hate to admit it… I was scared.

I turned to my accountability partner and basically told her “I am going to go running tomorrow and If I don’t go, call me a slacker!” Well the first attempt failed because it was raining and I punked out. But I called her last night and told her the same thing and this time it actually worked!

My plan was to start off easy; warm up by walking for half a mile and then walk/jog for 2 miles and then cool down. But surprisingly, I felt pretty good and jogged a VERY slow 2 miles without having to take a walking break, It felt so good to be out there again and seeing some familiar friendly faces that noticed my absence.

So what is the moral of this story? GET OUT THERE AND GET IT DONE!

Namaste…
