On The Mat With Mari: 40 Days Of No Shopping...Le Sigh

Why is Lent starting freakishly early this year and why are Ash Wednesday aaaaand Valentine's Day falling on the same day? Lobster dinners will be on a rise since some people can't eat meat on Ash Wednesday ha!

I am not sure if most of you know what Lent is, so here is a brief religious lesson (skip to next paragraph if you don't care lol). Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends six weeks later on Good Friday (right before Easter Sunday). Lent symbolizes the 40 days that Jesus spent fasting in the desert. During this time people usually give up something that they love such as sweets, alcohol, social media, etc. as a penance. Or like in the movie "40 Days and 40 Nights" Josh Hartnett's character gave up "le sex".

Sooooo why am I telling you all of this? Because y'all, I am giving up something that I hold dear to my heart...SHOPPING. Now I know that some of you might be saying "that isn't such a big sacrifice". Uhm if you follow me on Instagram, you know that I get packages delivered to my home, almost everyday. What exactly am I giving up? I can't buy any clothes, home goods, workout equipment, aaaaand I can only order takeout once a week (ubereats, seamless, door dash).

My regular UPS driver is going to think that something happened to me haha. Actually now that I think about it, I gave up ordering takeout a few years ago and the delivery guy from one of my favorite restaurants assumed that I moved out.

You know what is better than shopping? Shopping with friends! Watch my video below to see Angie enable my bad habit (and join in!) while I enjoy one last hurrah this weekend.

Do you give something up for Lent? What are you giving up this year??
