POM, Faux Pepperoni, and Flywheel!

I’m sorry for being AWOL for the past few days but I just needed a break from the net…I didn’t take any pictures etc so I will only share what I ate today…

Before I show you my eats, I just wanted to share with you guys  something great that my friend Jess from Fit Chick in the City is hosting…she is giving NY bloggies the opportunity to check out a Flywheel spin class for FREE! It will be on May 15th…make sure to check out her site for all the details and to sign up in advance; seats are limited. The class will be the day before my 4 mile race so I will be there but taking it easy for the most part…

Eats and Workouts

This morning I woke up and started my day off with YIAJ! Oikos Caramel Oikos with a Banana in a Jif Natural PB Jar

And my usual Cafe con Leche (I finally switched over to Iced…)

I wanted to go for a run but had to wait for Koko’s house visit…the Vet ended up coming to my apartment around 12:30ish. My baby was such a good boy but his mom (me) became watery eyed when they were taking his blood…I am WAY to attached to my baby lol. $250 dollars later, I was finally able to get his meds… I have to call mañana to get the results of his blood work.

By the time I was able to make it to the park it was already 80 degrees! Between my leg still being in a little bit of pain and the sun beaming down on me this was a pretty slow run. I managed to do 2.78 Miles at a pace of 11:40. After I was done, I sat on the park bench for a while so that I could cool down, my body felt like it had a fever. Thankfully my mom was in the area and picked me up.

When I got home I wanted to cool down with something refreshing and I was so happy that this was delivered to me ayer…

Ryan from POM Wonderful contacted me about a week ago and offered me the chance to try POM. I could not wait to get this package in the mail! I literally kept checking my mail lol. When the UPS Driver dropped off this box ayer, I was very giddy lol.

Here is some info on POM courtesy of their website:

POM Truth

POM is the only pomegranate juice you can trust for real pomegranate health benefits and superior taste. There are many imitators, but only one POM

100% Authentic.
POM is the only brand guaranteed to contain 100% authentic pomegranate juice. Unfortunately, not all brands are as honest. According to recent tests conducted by three independent labs, eight out of ten beverages claiming to be 100% pomegranate juice had added sugar, colorants and other low-grade fruit juices. Why is this? Two reasons 1 because there is currently a worldwide shortage of pomegranate juice; and 2 because pomegranate juice is very expensive to produce. By using non-pomegranate ingredients, unscrupulous exporters to the U.S. make their pomegranate juice cheaper and more readily available. As a result, what’s missing are the unique antioxidants that make pomegranate juice so healthy.

Read the label.
Beware of filler juices! Other companies try to sell you 100% juice with the word Pomegranate next to pretty pictures of pomegranate juice. These companies want you to believe their products contain all the health benefits of real pomegranate juice. Don’t be fooled. These products are loaded with highly processed filler juices like white grape, apple and pear, all of which are little better than sugar water when it comes to antioxidant benefits.

Backed by science.
Only POM Wonderful products are backed by $34 million in medical research, primarily in the areas of prostate, cardiovascular, and erectile function. All of the juice studies featured patients who drank POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice, not any other brands. Since POM is totally different from other pomegranate juices, that means ours is the only one you can trust to deliver genuine pomegranate health benefits.

Tree to bottle.
POM is the only brand that controls it’s pomegranate juice from tree to bottle. We grow the fruit in our own orchards, hand-pick the pomegranates when perfectly ripe, squeeze them in our own specially designed presses, and even manufacture our own bottles. Unlike other brands, we never buy pomegranate juice from outside vendors. This is how we guarantee pomegranate perfection in each bottle.

Wonderfully superior.
POM is the only pomegranate juice guaranteed to be made exclusively from Wonderful variety pomegranates. There are over a hundred different pomegranate varieties, but only the Wonderful variety is known for its unique combination of superior antioxidants, incredible taste and brilliant red color. That’s why we chose to grow only the Wonderful variety, because it’s simply the best.

As you can tell POM IS good for you but none of that matters if it doesn't taste good. I don’t know about you guys but I only consume things that I enjoy…here is my verdict

hmmm what do you think?DSCN6685

I LOVED IT! It totally hit the spot and I found it VERY refreshing! I already started to look for recipes online…I sense some Tofu marinated in POM in my NEAR future! lol.

Thanks Ryan for the package! I can not wait to try it in different recipes and straight out the bottle. I am also going to purchase some other flavors…have you guys tried POM? What did you think? Do you have any recipes to share????

For Lunch I decided to try another Product: Yves Meatless Pepperoni

DSCN6678

I first tried it right out of the fridge and it tasted FAKE and looked like Play Doh! But when I included it in my Pizza it served its purpose. It obviously did not taste like the real thing but it was not bad either. I made my pizza with Trader Joe’s WW Dough, Mushrooms, Olives, Faux Pepperoni, Part Skim Mozzarella, and Ragu Pizza Sauce…

Have you tried Faux Pepperoni? And if so, is there any kind that you recommend????

I am off to catch up on some blogs…have a great night!

Namaste…

  1. If you get around to trying POM-marinated tofu, you HAVE to share! I've been running out of tofu ideas lately.

  2. I just about died on my run today. So hot! I'm having some POM sent to me as well. Can't wait! With a little ice, sounds like the perfect post-hot-run drink.

  5. I like your info on POM. I tried the straight POM juice once & wasn't a HUGE fan but I think if I mixed it with a lil sparkling water or something it'd be good. I'm all for drinking natural fruit juice though & I love that it is 100%!

  7. Mari... You are the best!!!!! Thank you!

I was eating that fake pepperoni for the majority of the winter. It is kinda gross, but kinda good.

  8. I enjoy POM, though prefer the actual fruit (seeds) in yogurt. It's a bit of a mess tho!! The juice has too much sugar for me. Never tried meatless pepperoni, and am thinking I'll just stick with veggies on my pizza!

  9. Thats a fine looking pizza! I tried one kind (of course I cant remember the brand now) of faux pepperoni and will never try it again. I just use turkey pepperoni because I dont like the fakeness. I wish I could eat fatty pig parts every day though lol

I hope KoKo is ok--Lincoln and I will say a little prayer for him!! The things we do for our dogs, I tell you. Sometimes I think they own us instead of us owning them.

And POM-never tried it. It's too expensive for my taste and I only spend that much money on Starbucks and something that will get me sauced :)

  10. Ooh- I love POM! I've made french toast with it and I also used it in my granola. The mister uses it in his smoothies and you can also make a POM-based protein cookie dough by mixing it with the powder instead of water. It's good!

Poor koko- hope his lack of cough lets you sleep now!

You know I have an irrational fear of fake meat products- especially if the taste like meat!

  11. I've never tried faux pepperoni, but I've seen Yves in the store before. I'm so jealous about the POM you received! I want some! lol Oh, and by the way-I took this video just for you on Friday night!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlOi18WPfPo

  14. I much prefer turkey bacon - Hormel brand you get 15 slices for 50 calories - but then it won't be vegetarian!

How many carbs are in one of those bottles of POM? Just wondering if it would be "insulin worthy" for me!

  15. I used to eat the lightline (or was it Yves) fake peps all the time as a snack. i wish we had some here. I love them. We don;t have pom here either but we do have tons of other juices.

  17. Looks like a healthy day. I love POM also cook with it. I carmelized onions in POM and served them with goat cheese, which could make a salad or in my case crostini.

the pancakes look wonderful. I havent made pancakes in a while and I think its time to dust off the griddle pan!

i know you are refraining from meat but the turkey pepperoni is awesome and REALLY tastes like the real thing- only less greasy. the calorie count for the hormel brand is amazing 14 slices for 70 cals!
